1. U-Tad, Madrid, Spain
U-Tad (University of Technology, Arts and Design) provides several paths to study animation. At the undergraduate level, this Toon Boom Center of Excellence (COE) houses an Animation BFA. At the graduate level, students can earn an MA in 3D Character Animation; Production Direction for Animation, Games and VFX; Character Design; Rigging and Character FX; and Digital Compositing for VFX. Across programs, students benefit from U-Tad’s partnerships with Electronic Arts (EA), Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), and Microsoft, among others; campus and online delivery; access to state-of-the-art production facilities; and internship opportunities.
Programs culminate with a final project. Graduates have secured roles at places such as DreamWorks, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Rockstar Games, SIE, Disney, Cartoon Saloon, Amazon, Skydance Animation, DNEG, Ubisoft, Google, MPC, Weta FX, The Mill, Framestore, and Scanline VFX.
2. Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain
Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) is home to the Center for Image and Multimedia Technology (CITM). Within the center is a Design, Animation and Digital Art program that allows students to work on real world projects with companies across the 3D, technical arts, and post-production sectors. Leading to a bachelor’s degree, the program also highlights professional internships; workshops and seminars; and access to state-of-the-art production facilities. The program culminates with the Bachelor’s Thesis. Graduates can be found at places such as Blizzard Entertainment, Ubisoft, Reel FX, and Aardman.
