Founded in 1954, University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is the state's largest post-secondary institution. The school serves around 12,000 students across a system of five campuses & colleges including Anchorage (main), Kenai Peninsula College, Matanuska-Susitna College, Kodiak College, and Prince William Sound College. UAA offers more than 100 degree and programs in six colleges and schools.
The College of Arts and Sciences houses the Department of Art, which offers a BA in Art with a Concentration in Graphic Design and a Minor in Art.
Graphic Design students “learn to use design as a means of communicating and solving complex ideas in a visual format,” says the school. The program covers foundations of organizing text, illustrations and images to create messages that inspire, inform, and motivate.” Students learn to “adapt and apply design principles to both print and digital media.” Other program highlights include artist lectures, gallery exhibitions, internship opportunities, and workshops.
Graduates of the program are prepared to pursue positions in areas such as advertising, education, entertainment, marketing, public relations, publishing, web design, and more. The program also prepares students for entry into a graduate program.
