University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) held its first classes in 1957. Today, this young university serves more than 31,000 students enrolled in more than 200 undergraduate programs and approximately 160 graduate degree programs, including more than 40 doctoral and professional programs, across 16 major academic units. The College of Fine Arts houses the Department of Art, which offers BA, BS, BFA, and MFA degrees.
Graphic Design options include a BS in Graphic Design and Media, and a Print & Graphic Design Certificate Program in conjunction with the Department of Continuing Education. The BS Program requires 69 credit hours of study in the major. Required course and Elective highlights include Advanced Graphic Design, Animation, Design Fundamentals II-3D, Design & Media Studio, Digital Illustration, Digital Modeling, Motion Graphics, Package Design, Typography I-III, and Web and User Interface Design.
A Capstone course in the final core requirement for the Graphic Design & Media Program. As a culminating class, the Capstone is “designed to build upon current design skills and research methods by addressing real-world scenario design, as well as preparation for graduation,” says the school. “Self-driven pieces will be designed,” as well as business cards, a resume, web presence (personal/portfolio website), and a finished printed portfolio.
Program alumni hold titles such as Advertising Designer, Animator, Art Director, Brand Manager, Communications Specialist, Concept Artist, Creative Director, Environmental Designer, Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Infographics Designer, Motion Graphics Specialist, Multimedia Designer, Photo Imaging Specialist, Publication Designer, Typographer, UI Specialist, Visual Marketing Director, and Web Designer.
