The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at University of Delaware (UD) is home to the Department of Art & Design, which houses the Visual Communications BFA (BFA-VC) Program. Designed for students seeking careers in Graphic Design, Advertising, Interaction Design, Motion Graphics, and Illustration, the program features immersive studio experiences, field trips, visiting artists and designers, internship opportunities, and study abroad experiences.
Consisting of 124 credit hours, the BFA-VC Program at UD begins with two years in Core Art and Design courses. Examples include Media/Design/Culture, and Core Photography, Typography, 3D Modeling, Interactive Media, Moving Images, and Painting. During the Junior and Senior years, students will complete 36 credit hours of BFA-VC courses. Examples include Design Methods, Experimental Typography, Design Contexts, Interaction Design, Typographic Methods, and Design Studio.
To enhance the degree and develop skills in other areas of art and design, students have the opportunity to select nine credits of electives. Examples include Advertising Design Methods, Letterpress Printing, Book Arts, Experimental Animation, Illustration Narrative, Art and Design for Games, Photographic Strategies, and Illustration Studio.
The Visual Communications BFA Program at University of Delaware culminates with the BFA Project and Exhibition. Students graduate with a polished portfolio of their work.
