University of Kansas (KU) is home to the School of Architecture and Design (SAD), which houses the Department of Design. As part of SAD, the Department provides access to state-of-the-art facilities, opportunities to participate in short-term study abroad experiences, and semester-long internships in the U.S. and abroad. Students in the Department of Design also benefit from lectures and workshops with leading designers and opportunities to collaborate with KU’s industry partners.

The Department of Design is home to the Design BFA Program, which offers a Concentration in Illustration & Animation. The program explores art, design, illustration/drawing, animation, marketing, and professional practices. Course examples include Drawing for Media Illustration, Sequential and Narrative Illustration, Advanced Concept Art, Animation, Promotion and Marketing for Illustration, and Fundamentals of Animation.

Graduates of the Illustration & Animation Program at University of Kansas are prepared for careers in Animation and Video Games, Print Media, Advertising, and Book Publishing, Motion Graphics, Fashion Illustration, Design, Toys and Games, TV and Film, and Advertising and Marketing.

University of Kansas is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Founded in 1865, the school opened on September 12, 1866 with one building and 55 students. Today, KU serves 28,500 students across five campuses the in Lawrence, Overland Park, Kansas City, Wichita, and Salina, Kansas. More than 400 degrees and certificate programs are offered in 13 academic schools.
