Winthrop University

Winthrop University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) houses the Departments of Design. With more than 600 students enrolled, CVPA’s Department of Design has Bachelor of Design (BDes) Program with Illustration, Graphic Design, Experience Design, and Interior Design Tracks. 

The BDes requires a total of 120 credit hours, including 74 in the Track. Students in the Illustration Track will take courses such as Design Drawing, Illustration: The Figure, Visual Thinking and Symbolic Communication, Illustration: Sequential Storytelling, Graphic Arts Production Practices, Design Drawing: Structure and Form, Illustration: Narrative and Editorial, Design Fundamentals, Illustration: Heroes and Antiheroes, Graphic Design, Illustration: Fairy Tales/Child Literature, Web Design, Illustration Costumed Figure, VCOM Seminar, Illustration: Persuasion and Propaganda, Design and Color, and Illustration: Portraiture.

In the final year of the BDes Program, students will complete the following courses: Senior Thesis Proposal, Senior Thesis, and Critical Seminar. Students will also complete a Professional Portfolio of their best work.

Graduates of the BDes: Illustration Program at Winthrop University can pursue careers such as Book Illustrator, Game Artist, Cartoonist, Storyboard Artist, Character Designer, Scientific/Medical Illustrator, Comic Book Artist, Advertising Designer, and Editorial Illustrator, among others.

Winthrop University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
