Scope of Program:
The University of Kentucky offers two undergraduate programs in Digital Media as well as a M. F. A. program in New Media. B. A. and B. F. A. candidates take pre-major foundation courses in drawing, digital art, art history, 2D surface, 3D form and studio core seminar, where students create an entrance portfolio for the Art Studio major. Students also participate in a foundation exhibition. Both B. A. and B. F. A. candidates must pass a portfolio review for entrance into their majors. Students opting for the Digital Media concentration take courses in digital video, web design, intermedia and hardware and software topics in the arts. B. F. A. candidates also focus on studio practicum, senior seminar and senior exhibition courses. B. A. and B. F. A. students must participate in a senior exhibition.
M. F. A. candidates must pass a first semester review, a qualifying review during the spring of the first year of study and annual continuing student reviews. They must also participate in four graduate critiques per semester. New Media students focus on photography, intermedia, graphic design and problems in intermedia. All students must create a M. F. A. exhibition and take a final examination.
Art, academic and need-based scholarships are available. M. F. A. candidates may apply for teaching assistantships and fellowships. All applicants to the M. F. A. program must submit a portfolio with their application.
