Scope of Program:
Graphic Design students at the University of Memphis complete the Graphic Design Core, which includes courses in typographic development, visual thinking and computer-assisted graphic design. They continue with coursework in art history, image design, graphic design method, writing and the design process, electronic pre-press production, visual design business practices, graphic design and print communication, special studies in graphic design and interactive and multimedia graphic design. All students create a portfolio.
M. F. A. candidates in Graphic Design complete coursework in problems in graphic design, writing and the design process, interactive multimedia, graphic design history and directed readings. All students create a thesis.
A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. and M. F. A. programs. Merit and need-based scholarships are available, as are graduate assistantships. Lab fees may apply for art classes. Residents of border counties in Arkansas and Mississippi may be eligible for border county tuition waivers. Tennessee residents may apply for state-sponsored scholarships and grants.
