Tuition Information: Undergraduate residents $11,322, nonresidents $13,832; graduate residents $14,012, nonresidents $21,466 for the 2011 – 2012 school year. Tuition rates do not include annual fees of $1,247. Reciprocity rates are available for residents of Wisconsin. Residents of North Dakota, South Dakota and Manitoba pay in-state tuition rates.

Scope of Program:
Students wishing to study Graphic Design at the University of Minnesota Duluth must complete several prerequisite courses, pass a portfolio review and submit a writing sample in order to be admitted to the major. Prerequisite courses include 2D and 3D design, 2D digital design, visual literacy and drawing. Students accepted to the major concentrate on design technology, typography, interactive design, art history, motion graphics and senior design studio work. Students complete a senior seminar and create a portfolio project.
M. F. A. candidates focus on interactive design, web design, new media, motion graphics and interactive design. All students must create a thesis exhibition or other final project, pass oral examinations and write a thesis paper related to their exhibition or final project.
Applicants to the M. F. A. program must submit a portfolio. Graduate assistantships are available, as are need-based and merit scholarships. Minnesota residents with demonstrated financial need are encouraged to apply for the Minnesota State Grant and Minnesota Stimulus Grant.
