Scope of Program:
Graphic Design and Illustration students at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire must begin in the B. A. program. They may apply to the B. F. A. program after completing foundation courses and passing a portfolio review. Graphic Design students focus on typography, symbology, photography, art history, compositional principles of graphic design, electronic media design, editorial concepts, information environments, multimedia interface concepts, 3D computer animation, video for art and design and advanced graphic communications. All students create a portfolio.
Illustration students concentrate on painting, computer graphics, life drawing, contemporary abstraction, illustration narratives, editorials, printmaking, 3D computer modeling, image and text, photography and advanced illustration studio. All students create a portfolio.
Per-class lab fees may apply. All students must satisfy a foreign language requirement. Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available. Minnesota residents may apply for tuition reciprocity. Out-of-state students whose parent or grandparent graduated from UW-Eau Claire may be eligible for a "Return to Wisconsin" tuition discount. Residents of Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and North Dakota may be eligible for Midwestern Student Exchange Program tuition discounts. Residents of Wisconsin may apply for state-sponsored scholarships and grants.
