Scope of Program:
B. F. A. candidates at Utah State University must begin their studies in the Bachelor of Science program. They may apply to the B. F. A. program after completing the required Art Foundation courses, which include drawing, 2D and 3D design, art history, computers and art, photography, painting and printmaking, and passing a B. F. A. review. Graphic Design students continue with coursework in illustration, typography, graphic interface design, brand identification, word, image and visual continuity and special topics in graphic design. All students complete a communication arts seminar and create a portfolio and B. F. A. exhibition.
M. F. A. candidates focus on issues in contemporary art, professional practices and interdisciplinary critique. All students must pass oral examinations and create a thesis exhibition.
A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. and M. F. A. Graphic Design programs. Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available. Residents of Utah are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
