This short parody is an homage to the classic 1999 movie Fight Club that seeks to answer the eternal question: what actually happens if you talk about Fight Club? (Well, it’s simple. You don't.) Fight Club is a movie I love to watch with others; each time I watch through it, I notice things I’d never noticed before, and I always find myself asking a million “what if” questions by the time the credits roll. Within the realm of this one film, there’s vast room for possibility. At each turn, there’s a chance Tyler’s plan could be thwarted--but it never is, and the secret therefore stays hidden to the audience until Tyler reveals it himself at the end. But this specific “what if” question that I’ve fixated upon has, to me, always been the most intriguing thing to think about: what if we broke the rules, exposed Tyler before he exposed himself? ...suffice to say, the conclusion I reached and represented in this animation was: he would never let you get away with that. In this animation, our boy has trained long and hard to make his debut at Fight Club. Except, he’s made one fatal flaw… what’s Fight Club? I drew and colored by hand all of the frames in this animation using TVPaint, a bitmap-based animation software. This stylistic choice was made to give this animation a gritty, authentic air that draws out the labor in each (literal!) line--analogous to the original rawness of Fight Club, which portrays tense emotions strung out upon (more figurative!) lines. Furthermore, the color scheme is composed of various shades of grey so as to replicate the setting of the claustrophobic, towering concrete jungle Tyler Durden finds himself suffocated by.
