Scope of Program:
Students at Ball State University may take advantage of the university's Institute for Digital Intermedia Arts, which offers students the opportunity to participate in immersive learning experiences in the digital arts. B. F. A. candidates who emphasize Electronic Art take foundation courses in drawing, painting, computer art and art history, then choose either the Animation option or the Video and Intermedia Art option. Students work on individual and collective projects and participate in a capstone experience. Students who choose the Visual Communication emphasis take courses in graphic design, type and image, photography, printmaking and visual communication history. Visual Communication students may choose a practicum, thesis or internship for their capstone experience.
The Master of Arts in Visual Arts Studio program includes 33 credit hours of coursework in art history, special topics and studio. A thesis is required. M. F. A. Visual Arts students may select the Animation emphasis, which includes 60 credit hours of coursework in advanced animation, video and intermedia art, independent study, seminars and colloquia. Students must pass a first-year portfolio review to continue in the program.
Ball State University offers Art Department scholarships as well as university scholarships. Graduate assistantships are available.
