Scope of Program:
Students in the Design Communications program at Belmont University complete a core program that includes coursework in visual interpretation, 2D and 3D design, drawing, digital imaging, studio arts, web page design, typography, design systems, design principles, art history, linear design, identity and branding, interactive media, information design and packaging and narrative and advocacy design. All students complete an internship and create a senior portfolio and exhibition.
Design Administration students focus on accounting, entrepreneurship, marketing, advertising principles and design administration. Photography students concentrate on history of photography, digital photography and advanced photography. Studio students complete coursework in drawing, illustration, painting, clay and sculpture. Web Development students take courses in programming, interactive media, website development, business data management and analysis and human-computer interaction.
A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. program. Belmont University is a Christian university; all students must attend convocations, take Old Testament and New Testament courses and complete a service learning requirement. Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available. Southern Baptist Convention and Tennessee Baptist Convention tuition discount grants are available, as are Tennessee Baptist Convention church matching grants. Tennessee residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
