Scope of Program:
Students at California University of Pennsylvania can choose between the Graphic Design and Graphics and Multimedia programs; each has a slightly different focus. Graphic Design students complete core coursework in drawing, 2D and 3D design, video production and art studio. All students must pass a portfolio review after completing the first year of study. Accepted students continue with courses in art history, multimedia foundations, typography, color theory, web publishing, graphic design history, graphic design theory and criticism, radio/TV commercials and professional practices.
Students in the Graphics and Multimedia program concentrate on graphic communication processes, time-based media, multimedia foundations, layout and design, photography, screen printing, lithography, desktop publishing, flexography and package printing, cost analysis, digital video, marketing, computer animation and color imaging. All students complete an internship, participate in a senior seminar and create a digital portfolio.
Merit and need-based scholarships are available. Pennsylvania residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
