Scope of Program:
Louisiana State University requires all B. F. A. candidates to complete foundation courses in drawing, 2D and 3D design, figure drawing and art history before they are formally admitted to their concentrations. Each concentration has additional foundation course requirements. Students must also pass a portfolio review at the end of the freshman year in order to continue with concentration coursework. Graphic Design students focus on color design, letter forms, typography, prepress production, digital imaging, graphic abstraction, applied illustration and interactive media, while Digital Art students concentrate on typography, traditional and digital photography, video art, digital and alternative print media, interactive and web media and issues in contemporary art.
M. F. A. candidates at LSU take coursework in graduate graphic design and research in graphic design in addition to studio courses and independent study.
All students in LSU's Art and Design Department must purchase a laptop computer and required software. M. F. A. applicants must submit a portfolio with their application. A wide variety of scholarships is available, and graduate students may also apply for teaching, research and service assistantships.
