Scope of Program:
Mississippi University for Women was the first women's college in the U. S. to receive state support. Today, Mississippi University for Women accepts men as well as women, but retains the name tied to its historic past. Students must take 18 credit hours of Art Core courses before applying to the B. F. A. program. A portfolio review is part of this process. Art Core courses include design, drawing, computers in art, art history, 20th century art, painting and crafts. Once accepted to the B. F. A. program, students focus on typography, production design, layout, graphic design history, figure drawing, painting, mixed media and corporate identity. All students complete an internship, create a senior show and participate in annual undergraduate art shows.
Need-based, academic merit and art scholarships are available. Mississippi residents are encouraged to apply for state-funded scholarships and grants.
