Scope of Program:
Illustration/New Pictures students at Seattle Pacific University must complete freshman art courses, including drawing studios, 2D and 3D design and color, before applying to the major. Students then complete coursework in computer art, painting, figure drawing, digital photography, typography, art history, illustration, image and narrative, digital illustration studio, contemporary art, digital media in art, interactive media and painting studio: new pictures.
Visual Communication students complete freshman art courses, including drawing, 2D and 3D design and color theory, before applying to the major. They then focus on art history, illustration, typography, applied typography, problems in visual communication, motion graphics, information design, environmental design, interactive media and history of graphic design. All students complete an internship and create a senior exhibition.
Seattle Pacific University is affiliated with the Free Methodist Church. All students must take courses in Christian theology and scripture. Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available, as are church matching and missionary dependent scholarships. Washington residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
