Scope of Program:
B. F. A. candidates at St. John's University begin their studies with foundation coursework in design, color theory, 3D design and drawing. Graphic Design students continue with coursework in studio art, art history, graphic design and production, typography, book arts, visual communications history and mixed media. Illustration students focus on figure drawing, anatomy, art history, book arts, visual communications history, painting and illustration studio. Students in both programs create a portfolio and complete either an internship or a senior thesis project.
Students in St. John's B. F. A. program must complete classes in foreign language and theology. A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. program. Scholarships for Catholic students and graduates of accredited Catholic high schools are available, as are fine arts, merit and need-based scholarships. New York state residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored scholarships. Qualifying students may also apply for the New York State Tuition Assistance Program.
