So, you’re searching for a good animation school in the state of Nevada and you come across a “Best Schools,” list, then another, and another. You browse through the lists, jot down the top five or so from each list, and move on. You begin your search again and come across a “Top Schools” list, then another, and another. You see many of the same schools on all of the lists, so you begin wonder if these lists are all the same. It’s true that many of the same schools make both lists, but the interesting part is, the same schools wind up on both lists for different reasons.
“Best” lists are typically published by large organizations such as Forbes, Princeton Review, and U.S. News & World Report. These organizations assess factors such as number of program offerings, graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, faculty resources (student-teacher ratio), financial resources, and student selectivity when determining which schools will make the list.
Students, alums, smaller organizations, education blogs, and others typically publish “Top” lists. These types of groups usually assess other factors that have to do with issues such as cost and quality of student life. Just a few considerations may include affordability, convenience, types of clubs and organizations, recreation, student population, job placement services, and other similar factors.
