Scope of Program:
Studio Arts students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha begin in the B. A. program; interested students must apply for acceptance into the B. F. A. program and pass a portfolio review. All Studio Arts students take Studio Core 1, Studio Core 2 and Art History Core classes, including 2D and 3D drawing and design, alternative media, intermedia, life drawing and studio courses. Graphic Design students continue with coursework in digital tools, graphic design history, product design, package design and branding. Students participate in a design studio and create an exhibition. All B. F. A. students also write a thesis.
Independent Game Design students focus on game design as art, computer graphics, digital game design and game design studio. Intermedia students concentrate on digital imaging, sound production, video production, animation and virtual reality. All students must complete a capstone course and project.
Visual Technology students take some of their classes at Metropolitan Community College, including graphic communication arts and design, commercial and still photography, electronic imaging and media arts and video and audio communications arts. Students take Visual Technology electives and complete a capstone course at the main UNO campus.
Art scholarships are available, as are need-based, service and merit scholarships. Residents of Pottawattamie, Mills and Harrison Counties in Iowa are eligible for the Metropolitan Advantage Program, which offers discounted tuition rates.
