Scope of Program:
Students in the B. F. A. program at Webster University must complete core courses in creative strategies, drawing, 2D and 3D design, figure drawing and current art before applying to the major. The application process includes an art major acceptance portfolio review. Students accepted into the program complete coursework in art history and studio art in addition to taking classes in their emphasis area. Alternative Media students concentrate on alternative media studio, performance art, conceptual art and professional practices. Students must pass a B. F. A. review and create a thesis. Graphic Design students focus on typography, advertising design, graphic design products, design concepts and theory and digital applications. All Graphic Design students must pass a portfolio exam.
Interactive Digital Media students complete coursework in audio production, media production, video production, mass communications, 2D design, writing for interactive digital media, visual design for interactive digital media, interface design, programming for web communications and interactive digital media, cultural diversity in the media, ethics and delivering digital media. Students must complete either a senior overview or professional practicum. Students are encouraged to take additional courses in animation, video game design and related areas.
Master's degree candidates in the Graphic Design emphasis participate in graduate seminars and graphic design studio experiences. All students must create a thesis exhibition. A portfolio is required with the application to the Master of Arts program.
Webster University's financial aid policy permits only one scholarship per student. Need-based and merit scholarships are available. Tuition discounts are available for active duty military members, reservists, retirees and family members and for Midwest Student Exchange Program participants.
