The animation industry is crazy competitive these days, with more than 64,000 talented full-time artists working at studios, design firms, and creative agencies across the U.S. alone. Thousands more work part-time or independently in a range of creative industries, while others work in less common industries such as architecture, engineering, law and medicine. Though competitive and constantly evolving, students are finding ways to stay a step ahead of the competition. One way is to specialize in an in-demand area (or two).
Though the fall semester has already begun, you can still start applying to programs for Fall 2018. Besides the new game design program’s we’ve already told you about—Clemson’s MFA in Digital Production Arts (DPA), Staffordshire University’s BA in eSports, and EKU’s Minor in Game Content Creation among them, we managed to find a few others that just might take you to “another level.” We are happy to announce that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Indiana University Bloomington (IU Bloomington) have launched several programs for aspiring game designers who aren’t afraid to aim high.
The fall semester is in full swing, with dozens of new animation programs welcoming hundreds of students for the very first time. Kennesaw State University welcomed its first group of Digital Animation BFA students in August and Wichita State University just opened its doors to dozens of aspiring animators who were accepted into the schools innovative Bachelor of Applied Arts in Media Arts (BAA).
Our ninth seasonal contest received almost one hundred submissions with more creativity and high quality animations than we’ve ever seen before in a single season! If you are an aspiring animator and shopping around for a training program, you may have come across dozens of different degree programs that combine other areas of study with animation. Digital Art and Animation, Media Arts and Animation, Game Art and Animation, Illustration and Animation, and Film, Video, New Media, and Animation (FVNMA) are just a few.
Over the centuries, Spain has been home to famous architects painters, playwrights, and sculptors. Pablo Picasso, Santiago Calatrava, Salvador Dali, Carlos Atanes, Francisco Goya, José Álvarez Cubero, and Diego Velazquez are just a few. As technology continues to change the way art is made, today’s Spanish artists have adapted almost effortlessly by incorporating everything from digital film and electronic music to computer-generated graphics and animation into their work.
The Pacific Northwest region (also Northwest) includes the states of Oregon and Washington and part of Idaho. Together, these states are home to more than 15,000 tech companies, and thousands of animation and game design companies. Seattle alone has more than 300 game companies, employing more than 16,500 people; the region is home to countless film and interactive media companies, and there are so many Fortune 500 companies here, you’ll lose count.
From the Cliffs of Moher and The Ring of Kerry to The Rock of Cashel and Trinity College, Ireland is home to amazing natural wonders and some of the world’s oldest structures. In between, you will find a thriving art scene (check out the Irish Museum of Modern Art IMMA, National Gallery of Ireland, and National Museum of Ireland: Decorative Arts and History), world-famous shopping destinations such as Dublin's Grafton Street, Brown Thomas and Temple Bar Markets, and some of the best pubs on the planet. The Stags Head, McDermott’s Pub, and The Pavilion are just a few.
Italy is the center of history, culture, and art, making it one of the world’s most popular places to explore. Other major attractions such as amazing cuisine, world class sightseeing, and some of the best shopping in the world enhance the country’s appeal. When you consider global universities such as the University of Padua, Sapienza University of Roma, and University of Milan, and top art and design schools such as the Florence Academy of Art, Politecnico di Milano (Polytechnic University of Milan), and the College of Art and Design in Florence, Italy becomes one of the best places to visit and study abroad.
